Factory Test Machine Virtualization Management System Construction

| Background

Mr. Chen is an equipment planning engineer who creates high-performance automated production systems. He struggled with virtual workstations with USB to RS-232 serial port devices that didn’t function properly. When he discovered the SUNIX DevicePort he was very excited about how it allows users to expand RS-232 ports over Ethernet connections. Because it can collect data immediately from virtual terminal equipment and submit it to a host Mr. Chen wanted to try the DevicePort with his next project.

| Current System

8 Thin Client workstations are expected to replace traditional desktops for data collection. The terminal server is available for multiple users.

| 現有問題

When a Thin Client replaces traditional desktops it significantly reduces the cost of management and hardware. But after testing, two problems occurred:

  • Distance constraints / Wiring difficulty
Each test workstation connects 3 or 4 test fixtures, scanners, and other RS-232 devices. The Server and test workstation are far from each other making wiring a challenge.
  • Virtual I/O devices can not connect
The data from the Thin Client workstation can’t be submitted to the terminal server.

| The DevicePort Perfect Solution

Each workstation is outfitted with one DevicePort (4-Ports RS-232). Eight workstations can expand to 32 COM ports. It’s easy to connect test fixtures, scanners, and other RS-232 devices. The SUNIX DevicePort connects with workstations via Ethernet, solving the difficulty of distance and wiring.
With exclusive I/O Redirection Technology, DevicePort creates physical COM ports that support real time data communication, Smart COM on/off-line deployment, and Ethernet-COM port hot-plug capability. Users can expand RS-232 COM ports easily without complex software configuration.

  • Supports Virtual Machines - DevicePort supports virtual machine technology, allowing Test Machine Systems to achieve centralized management, reduce equipment costs, and improve plant automation.
  • Saves Time and Money - Traditional desktops with USB to RS-232 devices do not work properly and Engineers require a lot of time to keep them maintained. The DevicePort solution is easy to manage with reduced maintenance time.
  • Quick Expansion - DevicePort is Plug-n-Play. It is easily accessed via a device manager without needing to call for complex IP settings.
  • Flexible Configurations - DevicePort and ThinClient are light in weight. They don't take up space on a workstation. The DevicePort makes wiring simple, easy, and more space efficient.
